About the event

Queer to Stay -

Celebrating Queer Activism Opening night July 1st 6:00PM - 8:00PM Exhibition runs July 1st - August 1st As the 40th anniversary of Homosexual Law Reform approaches, we look back at the decade of change that led up to this landmark legislation.

Activists of Aotearoa led massive social change in that decade. We celebrate the dedication of our queer whānau who kicked down the doors of oppression to prop them open for future generations. Queer activists were instrumental in supporting pivotal moments of social change, such as anti-Springbok tour protests, Māori Land Rights, and Peace and Anti-nuclear movements.

These crucial moments in our history helped forge connections with allies forming a stronger community to help fight for Homosexual Law Reform.

Today our queer whānau continues this fight, honouring the legacy of activism, fighting for climate change, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, disability equity, and trans rights.
