About the event
Join us for a very special event to celebrate the Rainbow Games and the herstory of lesbian bars and sports. We will be transforming the museum for three nights only into: RACKED a lesbian sports bar!
We'll have pool tables free to use for casual and competitive matches, women's sport on TV as well as food and drinks for sale. This event is a museum fundraiser so a $5 door charge will apply. Open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 4 - 6 April from 3pm to 11pm.
We are a safe and inclusive space, all lesbians, sapphics, rainbow+ folks, trans folks and their friends and allies are welcome.
This event was inspired by The Lesbian Bar Project, a limited streaming series telling the stories behind the remaining 32 lesbian bars across the USA and the communities they serve. The series focuses on the critical need to support Rainbow+ community spaces and how important they are to our communities as safe havens.
And we were inspired by the creation of 'Sports Bra', a sports bar dedicated to women’s sports in Portland, Oregon. The bar was created to fulfill the owner's dream of "a sports bar where women's sports are on (with the sound up!), the bathroom is always clean, and the menu has gluten-free options". An American study in 2021 found women’s sports were barely covered, with 95% of total TV coverage focused on men’s sports. “Sports Bra” only plays women’s sports on their TVs, believing exposure creates visibility and increases support for women’s sports. The bar is focused on ensuring patrons feel safe and empowered to relax and have fun.
